Storytelling is the art of narrating or unfolding a story. Storytelling has been a part of all cultures and traditions from time immemorial. Amrita Vidyalayam Sadashivgad, Karwar hosted the District Level Storytelling Competition for the Kadamba Sahodaya School Complex, Uttar Kannada, on July 13, 2019 in the school prayer hall. Seven schools participated in the competition.
The competition comprised of two categories, Junior Level for classes V to VII and Senior Level for classes VIII to X, in two different languages, Kannada and Hindi. In each category, each school had one student participant for each language. The theme chosen was stories based on values.
The competition commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the judges for the day, along with Principal Amma and Headmistress. Students narrated stories that they had prepared ahead of time, and the creative and artistic use of words amazed the judges. The content and presentation skills of the children were outstanding, creating a joyous atmosphere.
The participating schools were V.V.D. School of Excellence, Haliyal; M.P.E. Society Central School, Honnavar; Mar Thoma School, Honnavar; Shriniketana School, Isloor; Shree Maruti Residential School, Bangaramakki; Himalaya School, Ankola and Amrita Vidyalayam School, Karwar. The judges for the competition were Pradeep S. Rane, Retd. Headmaster, Angadi; Balasaheb B. Ghaste, Union High School, Majali and C.B. Rane of Shivaji High School.
The competition conveyed the message that if we practice values in life, we will experience real happiness. The event concluded with the judges giving their insights about conducting the competition, and the benefits of such competitions for students.
The competition conclude with memento presentation to the judges by Principal Amma, vote of thanks by the Headmistress, and lunch for one and all gathered there for the competition.
